DESCRIPTION:
Book - "Nouveau Manuel Complet de L'Horloger" (New Complete Manual of the Watchmaker) by MM. Séb, Le Normand and Janvier, revised and enlarged, by M. D. Magnifier, published 1850 in Paris, France, measures 5-3/4th inches x 3-3/4 inches x 1-1/4 inches, nearly contemporary binding as the first copies were published around 1836, 13 engraved plates folded into the book with diagrams detailing different aspects of watchmaking, text is entirely in French, quarter calf with marbled boards and end papers, gilt embossed labels on the spine with sprinkled edges.
CONDITION:
The leather shows significant wear, two labels within the compartments on the spine are still mostly intact, front board has come detached at the joint and is loose; few scattered spots of spill-burn which adds to the history of this book as most likely a watchmaker working by candlelight would have been the cause of the marks; few pencil markings to the first end paper, written in French, as well as "295," that being a bookseller's price for this rare copy.
